Dewayne Pickney

A native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Dewayne Jerome Pinkney holds a Master of Music degree in Bassoon Performance from The Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Barrick Stees and Jonathan Sherwin on contra-bassoon. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Bassoon Performance from University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana where he studied with Timothy McGovern.

Dewayne has performed concerts in Europe; including Spain; Germany, where he performed at The Berliner Philharmoniker Concert Hall and Essen Philharmoniker Concert Hall; and The Netherlands, in Den Haag at The Steigenburger Kerhaus. In the Americas, he has performed in Mexico and Canada. Dewayne has performed with several orchestras, most notably Charlotte Symphony in Charlotte, North Carolina, Orquesta Sinfonica UANL in Monterrey, Mexico, The Illinois Symphony, Junesses Musicale World Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Red (The Orchestra), and The Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra.

Dewayne has collaborated with artists and orchestras on many recordings, including Sinfonia da Camera on the Albany record label, 7 recordings with the Ohio Light Opera, and seen on the documentary DVD of The North American premiere of Enescu's Oedipe.

Currently and Indiana resident, Dewayne is working on the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Bassoon Performance at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music where he studies with William Ludwig. Dewayne enjoys practicing archery, bow hunting, and above all, being a follower of Christ Jesus and serving His church.
